The German occupation of a province of Crete is described from the point of view of a sergeant of the German Army Secret Police. This work is a non-fiction novel. The people, the places, the events, the details and the texts of the time are true and accurate, except for the name of the sergeant.
A German sergeant, dedicated to his duty, a member of the Nazi party, records in his diary his thoughts and actions in Crete during the Occupation: the imposition of occupation laws on the population, the pursuit of British fugitives, the relentless hunt for British spies, his fight against the Resistance. At the same time, he summarizes the highlights of his pre-war life as a legacy for his minor son. The sergeant’s diary entries are commented on by a Greek researcher, grandson of one of the guerrillas who killed the sergeant in May 1944 in an ambush, thus punishing him for the death he had wrought in their villages.
